After a month or so of cloth diapers I really did not want to spend $1 a day on the overnight disposable diapers so I needed a bullet proof cloth overnight option. I looked into various things such as a fitted or using a regular and a doubler microfiber insert in my daughter's pocket diapers and nothing seemed to work perfectly. Then I found hemp! Hemp is a natural product, grown without pesticides and not bleached, which is very harmful to the environment. Hemp also protects your baby because it is naturally anti-microbial. It is very thin but also extremely absorbent. I started with one hemp insert and now every diaper I own has one! For my 32lb toddler who is a heavy heavy wetter I stuff either her Happy Heiny One Size pockets or Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size with a microfiber insert, a hemp insert and then another microfiber insert and I have not had one single leak yet! We often travel long distances on weekends and a regular microfiber insert and a hemp insert keep her dry and leak free for the long car rides. I add a hemp insert to every pocket for added protection during the day, it is so thin it does not add any extra bulk. Hemp is very absorbant but not as quick to absorb as microfiber which is why I put the two together all the time, microfber closest to my daughter and hemp behind that. I have tried the Willow Sprouts for daytime use, the BabyKicks Hemparoo Joey Bunz and Swaddlebees Hemp Insert for overnight usage but really any hemp insert Nicki's carries will work well for either day or night use.
Here is Gabby in our early days with hemp, she is wearing a Fuzzi Bunz One Size with a Willow Sprouts insert.
