January 28th-February 3rd Weekly Giveaway

The ERGO Baby Carrier is one of the most popular baby carriers on the market! It is easy to put on and take off while providing you complete freedom of movement. This baby carrier can be used from infant (by using the Infant Insert) to toddler - just one carrier to meet all your needs. Simple! Even better, it is super versatile and you can wear it on the front, back, and hip positions (moving between the positions is easy). The ERGO Baby Carrier has an ergonomic design that fully supports both you and your baby in a very comfortable and healthy way. For baby this design supports a correct sitting position for their hip, pelvis, and spine growth. This position disperses most of the baby's weight between the hips and thighs helping to eliminate compression of the spine when hanging by the crotch which most other designs require. For parents, the fit of this baby carrier helps keep your body aligned and alleviate common back pain with baby carrying so you can hold your baby longer. With two shoulder straps and a very supportive waist belt the baby's weight is evenly distributed over the parent's body. The ERGO Baby Carrier is great to be used anytime...great for shopping, traveling, hiking, housework, gardening, and any activity you can think of where the parent(s) need freedom yet baby is safely and securely attached. Leave your stroller at home! No more navigating through crowds trying not to run others over. Plus, in the front position this baby carrier is perfect for nursing and simply holding your baby close when they are in need of comfort. If your baby falls asleep (which can happen often in this comfy carrier) the attached sleeping hood is perfect to cover your baby.

The ERGO Baby Carrier is a one size fits most carrier (great for Moms and Dads) and comes in a variety of colors! Each carrier comes with a free instructional DVD. Accessories are available too!

ERGO has a new Infant Insert that is designed to support baby's pelvis, hip joint and leg position along with the head and neck. The specially padded and shaped cushion can quickly and easily be placed in the carrier and readjusted as needed. It snaps closed around the infant, holding the baby in a cozy, protected environment.

January 21st-January 27th Weekly Giveaway

The Natural Baby Company has really outdone themselves this time! They’ve taken their best-selling Gro-Baby hybrid diaper system and added the option of a disposable soaker, genius! The Gro Baby Bio Soaker Intro Package includes one vanilla Gro Baby shell and 50 Bio Soakers in either size 1 or size 2.

The Gro Baby Bio Soakers are biodegradable and compostable, meaning they’re more earth friendly than standard disposable diapers. They are fragrance, dye, plastic and chlorine free and use biodegradable wood pulp and 3 grams of SAP gel (compared to 10-12 grams in other disposables) for absorbency. In other words, better for baby!

I have personal experience with this system and I can’t say enough good things about it. My super heavy night-time wetter can wear a size 2 Bio Soaker in a Gro Baby shell overnight without leaks! He wakes up dry and happy and so do I because I’m not changing sheets or PJs at night! These also make for an incredibly trim diaper, which is great on my little guy who has short little legs but outgrows his jeans because of his fluffy cloth bum!

I think this system is perfect for traveling. You can bring a box of Bio Soakers, a handful of Gro Baby shells, and you’re set for a few days without the hassle of toting around dirty diapers. You could also bring a few of their snap-in organic cotton soakers, which take up minimal room and are interchangeable in the same shells as the Bio Soakers.

To enter to win your free Gro Baby Bio Soaker Intro Package (in choice of size 1 or 2), you will receive ONE entry for EACH option below (you MUST leave a comment for each option saying what you did and where). This means you can get multiple entries increasing your chance to WIN! (each "Weekly Giveaway" may be different):

Reusable Nursing Pads

Have you ever looked down and noticed your shirt was wet even though you have been nowhere near a water source? Well either it is time for a new deodorant or you need some heavy duty breast pads. If you are a breastfeeding mother I can almost guarantee you have had a leak or two. It is a fact of life with breastfeeding, at least it was for me before I found Knickernappies Stay Dry Nursing Pads!

With my first daughter Gabby I tried to use some cheaper reusable breast pads but within moments I would leak through them so I stuck with disposable pads. I didn't know a reliable, reusable option existed. Now disposable pads certainly have their upsides; they are fairly easy to hide under a thin shirt, they are great for when you are traveling and they are really absorbent. I recommend having at least one box at home to get you through the first few days of your new baby's life when the leaking is heavier and you are lathering on lanolin. Some woman are lucky and only need breast pads for a few months but I required a pad every day I was breastfeeding right through Gabby's 10th month of life. Most days I went through more then one set of breast pads. Have you priced out the disposable pads? They are very expensive at about $10 per box of 60. That means that even if you only change them twice a day they will cost you about $20 per month or $240 over the course of your child's first year of life. That is expensive! If the cost alone is not a factor for you then think about the fact that you are throwing away that many breast pads as well.

With my second child on the way I was determined not to produce that much waste or spend the money on disposable pads, I needed a better solution. I bought a couple different brands of breast pads while I was shopping for my baby's cloth diapers so I would have a variety of breast pads to try out once she arrived. I bought the Swaddlebees Organic Velour Nursing Pads, the Knickernappies Stay Dry Nursing Pads, and the Fuzzi Bunz Stay Dry Breast Pads. I really love them all for different reasons, the Swaddlebees are so so so soft, they are perfect for overnight or if your nipple is bothering you. The Fuzzi Bunz are super absorbent and the white makes then very discrete. The ones I love the most are the Knickernappies because they are soft on my skin, thin but also absorbent and come in super fun colors! I really think you can't go wrong with any of these brands. When I am done with the pads I just toss them in the wash with my diapers or the kid's clothes. Super easy, cute, discreet and a cost saving option.....can't go wrong!

Nicki's January Mom of the Month

Name: Katie S. Hometown: Suburban Denver, CO Occupation: home health occupational therapist Children: Violet, 16 months How did you decide to cloth diaper? The biggest reason was environmental. When I read about how long diapers will sit in landfills, I didn't want to contribute to the problem. Of course we do use disposables at times, but it's pretty infrequently. The other issue was cost. I couldn't see spending even $14 on a box of diapers (store brand) and just throwing them away after one use. True, we've spent a pretty penny on our cloth diapers because I love the extra cute ones, but if we do decide to have a second child, we'll still be able to use them on that child too. What types of cloth diapers do you use? We use BumGenius 3.0's for daycare at grandma's because of the velcro. We have about 10 of them. We have one of each color of SmartiPants, a few Blueberry, and then one each of Knickernappies, FuzziBunz OS, Rocky Mountain Diapers, and Haute pockets. I also have fitteds and wool covers that we use overnight. What is your favorite cloth diaper and why? If I had to just pick one, I'd pick SmartiPants. I love snaps, I love that they're very trim, and I especially love that the insert doesn't have to be removed before washing. They are really economical too. What is your favorite non-mommy related activity or hobby? I'm a HUGE baseball fan. My favorite team is the Oakland Athletics and I also love the Colorado Rockies. When I lived in the Oakland area, I had season tickets and often went to over 100 baseball games a year (including road games). Now we only get to 10-15 games a year, but I still watch baseball every night on TV in the summer. What type of music do you play in the car when you don't have your children? I listen to a lot of country music, and bands like Dave Matthews Band, Rob Thomas, One Republic, Jason Mraz, etc. I also listen to a lot of sports talk radio when I drive around all day for work. What would you tell someone who is just starting out? I'd highly suggest trying a few different types of diapers. You don't want to spend a lot of money on one brand because everyone says they're great and then find out that they just don't work for your baby. Don't be afraid of trying prefolds, especially on a newborn. You can do it. I work full time and still manage to have plenty of time for diaper laundry! Anything else we should know about you? I'm a proud kitty owner to 3 cats, Ellis, Helton & Vinny. I'm really active in animal welfare causes and volunteer at a shelter when time permits. I am a native Minnesotan & wish we could move back there, but for now it's not a possibility. I also run a mommy blog called thinkPINK in my spare (haha!) time - http://katieandscotts.blogspot.com
