Top 10 Gifts for 0-12 Month Olds
In a previous blog post, I wrote about what I think are the Top 10 Gifts for Toddlers 12-24 months old. This time I'm going to talk about my favorite gifts for the littlest ones on your shopping list, 0-12 months old! Just last year my Emmett was only 1 month old at Christmas, and being my 3rd boy, I was again having trouble shopping for him! This year I have a brand new niece on my list, so here is what I've come up with!
10. Organic Farm Buddies: These are quite possibly the cutest and softest little critters you've laid your eyes on! Available in a ring, blankie or buddy, these little toys are perfect for chewing and snuggling and the bright patterns will certainly catch your little one's eye!
9. Jellystone Designs Chocolate Chew Bar: How funny will your little one look chomping on this silicone chocolate bar?! Various textures on the soft BPA-free bar will sooth your little one's teething pain and the sight will definitely bring a smile to anyone's face!
8. Pediped or Baby Bella Maya Shoes: They may not be walking yet but who says they shouldn't have stylish accessories? Both of these shoes are soft soled for healthy foot development, have velcro closures to stay on baby's feet, and are available in a huge variety of styles!
7. Bumkins SuperBibs: In the world of feeding bibs, Superbibs are my ultimate favorite! Not only do they have the CUTEST prints, but they clean up so easily and their top quality keeps them looking new from child to child!
6. L'oved Baby or Zutano Clothing: If you don't have a baby, check out these two clothing lines and I guarantee you'll be wanting another one! L'oved Baby makes classic layette staples that look so pure and simple. Zutano's bright colors and prints are unlike any other line you've seen. Both are perfect gifts for the under 1 year old!
5. Babylegs: I have personally found Babylegs to be one of the most functional and versatile baby accessories on the market! They are perfect for laying in a cold day, can be worn with diaper and shirt around the house for easy diaper changes (and eventually potty training), and are just so darn cute!
4. Sock-Ons and Zutano Fleece Booties: Any mom knows how annoying it can be to constantly be losing baby socks and exposing cold toes! Sock-Ons go over socks to hold them in place and Zutano Booties take the place of them!
3. Amber Teething Necklaces: I know what you're thinking, how can a necklace worn against the skin help ease teething pain? It's magic, I swear! I was an unbeliever, too, and now I buy them for all my friends! Read more about Baltic Amber here.
2. Aden & Anais Swaddle Blankets: Even if your baby is beyond swaddling, these muslin wraps are perfect for play blankets, loveys, nursing covers, stroller covers and burp cloths. Once you feel how soft they are, you'll probably want to sleep with one too ;-)
1. Haba Clutching Toys: Bright, fun, easy to hold, and safe for baby! What more can you ask for? These adorable toys are a classic and will bring hours of enjoyment to your baby!
10. Organic Farm Buddies: These are quite possibly the cutest and softest little critters you've laid your eyes on! Available in a ring, blankie or buddy, these little toys are perfect for chewing and snuggling and the bright patterns will certainly catch your little one's eye!

Top 10 Gifts for 12-24 Months
The holiday season is my absolute favorite time of the year! There is nothing like seeing the joy on my children's faces as they open their presents on Christmas morning. My two oldest boys are 3 and 5 and they can easily come up with a list of gifts they would like. My youngest little guy just turned a year old and obviously doesn't have much of an opinion on the matter. I found myself really struggling to shop for him this year. I don't want to buy him presents just for the sake of buying presents. I want them to be something useful and something he really will enjoy!
If you're like me and struggling a little bit too, I hope this list of my Top 10 Gifts for Ages 12-24 Months will help!
7. Planet Wise Snack Bags: Fill them with their favorite snack or use them to keep keep toys and pacifiers clean! Lots of great prints to choose from! Functionality meets fun!
5. Skip Hop Zoo Packs: Let them flex their newly found independence by choose which toys and books to tote around in these adorable bag. So many animals to choose from! Bonus, matching lunch boxes are available!
3. Aden & Anais Dream Blankets: We may be done with swaddling, but my love for Aden & Anais products doesn't end there. Dream blankets are ultra-soft and make for the perfect lovey for your toddler. For ultimate luxury, treat your little one to a Bamboo Dream Blanket!
If you're like me and struggling a little bit too, I hope this list of my Top 10 Gifts for Ages 12-24 Months will help!
10. Hape Mini Maracas: This adorable pair of maracas are easy to hold, make the perfect amount of non-annoying sound, and make my little guy smile every time he shakes them!
9. Plan Toys Pull-Along Snail: This toy is brightly colored, durable, and it's little body inches up and down as your child pulls it across the floor. I've bought this as a 1st Birthday gift before and it was a huge hit even with the grown-ups!
8. Skip Hop Treetop Friends Busy Bead Tree: Help your child exercise their fine motor skills as they move these wooden beads along the branches of the tree. The modern look of this toy makes it a cute addition to any living space.
6. Mocc On Slippers: Think practical! Not only will these slippers keep your little one's toes warm, the leather bottom will prevent slipping and the adorable prints will make them WANT to wear them!
4. Cozy Plush Animals: Perfect for snuggling up on the couch on a chilly winter night! These animals go in the microwave and come out smelling like calming lavender. Don't tell the kids, but they're perfect for adults aching muscles, too!
2. Hape Pound and Tap Bench: What's better than a toy you can pound on? How about one that you can pound on AND make music?! Hours of fun will surely be had with this high quality and brightly colored toy!
1. Sophie the Giraffe: No surprise here! This toy has been a favorite in our family for all 3 of my children. Sophie goes beyond teething, though. She keeps little hands busy in the car seat or on the changing table, she plays in doll houses, she rides firetrucks, she does it all!

The Best Kept Secret in Mama Cloth
This
is a topic that makes my husband blush, the forbidden aisle at the store (that
he no longer has to shop after an emergency phone call from his wife). We call it “girl week” around our house. Every “girl week” I am completely
prepared. I just take this little
purple-drawstring bag from the drawer in my nightstand. It contains my all-time-favorite
invention: The DivaCup. I whisper about it now and then to my
girlfriends…like the best-kept secret…are you leaning in? I’m not sure why we blush when we talk about
mama cloth, yet we’ll right-out-tell-a-stranger -just-what-kinda-stuff-we-wash-outta-those-sweet-diaps-our-babes-sport-around-their-tushies…
Shortly
after becoming a cloth-diapering mama, I began thinking how silly it was for me
to be pouring expense into feminine hygiene products. After all, hadn’t I saved a ton of money by
AVOIDING the disposable-aisle of diapers?
Here I was, mindlessly shopping each month for menstrual supplies.
I
purchased my first DivaCup almost 5 years ago ~ and haven’t looked back.
Never
a fan of bulky menstrual pads, I wanted something that would replace
tampons. The Diva Cup does exactly
that. It is this comfortable little silicone
cup that is completely reusable. When
positioned correctly, it cannot be felt at all--truly. The makers of the Diva Cup recommend
replacing it annually, which means that it lasts through at least 12 cycles ~
costing me a mere $2.75 per cycle.
What
about the mess of it? Well, it is
certainly not for the squeamish. It
requires rinsing and a quick wash with hot water and unscented soap at least every
12 hours. It’s very simple to do in a
private bathroom environment, right at the sink, taking just a minute or
two. That said, I would not recommend it
for public restroom use. (Inevitably, every year my menstrual cycle lands on the week that we go
camping. In this instance I opt for the
disposable products.)
When
I purchased it I was very skeptical – it seemed too good to be true. But it really is simple to care for. I have never tried DivaWash, since my family
uses natural/unscented soap on a daily basis.
I simply use what we have on hand and have never had any sensitivity
issues. Every now and then I sanitize
my DivaCup by placing it for three minutes in a pan of boiling water. A nice bonus is that it takes up the TEENIEST
amount of storage space. In my home, and
in the landfill. It has freed all this
space under our bathroom sink! One
little tiny product, one little shy secret…spread the word….

An Inside Look at the New Imagine Stay-Dry All-In-Ones
Yesterday Imagine Baby Products released 2 new products to their economical and bullet proof cloth diapering line. In this blog post, I'm going to tell you about the features of the new Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One and tell you why I think every cloth diaper stash needs a few of these on hand!
At first glance, the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One looks like any other all-in-one diaper. It's completely waterproof on the outside, offers a snap up and down rise in the front to fit babies 8-35+ pounds and is available in snap or hook & loop closure. Open it up and you'll find out what sets this diaper apart and makes it a smart buy!
The entire inner of the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One is lined with super soft polar fleece. This means your baby has only the most gentle material touching their skin. The 4 layer microfiber soaker pad is extremely absorbent and is also topped with the same polar fleece to wick away moisture and keep your little one feeling dry. The insert is snapped into the front. That means that no matter what snap rise you use, the absorbency will be where you need it to be. This also keeps the diaper nice and trim fitting in the back, which can sometimes be a difficult feature to find in a one-size diaper!

Something very unique about the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One is that you can utlize other snap-in inserts from the Imagine Baby Product line. One of my favorite options is the new and improved Imagine Bamboo Soaker Pads. Snap one of these babies in your Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One, lay your stay-dry soaker on top and you've got a GREAT overnight diaper! Bonus: Because the absorbent soaker pad is removable, washing the diaper in a piece of cake! No stinkies from sewn in absorbency and the insert can be deep cleaned if build-up or yeast were ever to occur.
Why is this diaper a must-have for any cloth diaper stash? This no-frills diaper is easy for anyone to put on your baby! Babysitters, grandparents, and spouses that are hesitant to use cloth diapers will find this cloth diaper just as easy to put on as a disposable diaper. There is no stuffing, folding or removing of inserts. These also make the perfect diaper bag diaper. No other pieces to remember with this diaper, toss one in your diaper bag and you're set! Finally, this diaper is so reliable that it would be a great diaper to build your entire diaper stash from! A cloth diaper newbie would feel confident using this diaper!
It gets even better, for a limited time the Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry All-in-One is on sale for only $10.95! That's an unheard of price for a top quality All-In-One. Grab some to try out risk free, our 15 Day Wash Program insures that you'll get full store credit if you don't love it (but we know you will!).
Would you like to win a set of TWO Imagine One-Size Stay-Dry AIOS? Head over to our facebook page and click on the giveaway tab!

The Ins and Outs of Cloth Wipes
Before we invested in cloth diapers, we asked around for the
best advice our cloth diapering friends could give. One piece of wisdom that
kept cropping up over and over was to use cloth wipes along with our diapers.
If you think about it, cloth wipes make a lot of sense. Why throw a cloth
diaper into your pail or wet bag and then have to find a separate trash can for
a disposable wipes? It made sense logically, but logistically it seemed to pose
some problems. Should we keep the wipes wet all the time? What about a wipes
warmer? How do you take reusable wipes out of the house with you? Do you really
need premade wipes solution?
In the end, we decided to keep it simple. I made my own wipes
out of 7” by 7” flannel squares that I zig-zag stitched on my sewing machine.
Then, I bought 1 spray bottle (the type used by hair stylists to hold water)
and 1 travel size spritz bottle. I made my own wipes solution by mixing 1 cup
of water with ½ tsp lavender Dr.Bonner’s soap and ½ tsp baby oil. I put the
homemade solution into the spray bottle to use at home and into the spritz
bottle to put in the diaper bag. To use the wipes, just simply spray the wipe
before right before wiping baby then put the used wipe into the wet bag or pail
with the diaper.
Not the crafty type? There are plenty of readymade wipes and
wipe solution out there to try. In general, fleece wipes are going to be softer
and flannel wipes are going to be thinner to get in all the nooks and crannies.
There are also cotton and hemp options out there for families looking for
natural fibers. Some families also choose to soak their wipes in solution or
water so they’re always ready to be used. Wet wipes can be stored in a wipes
pouch, like the ones made by Planet Wise, or can be kept warm in a warmer.
Just like with diapers, every family is going to have their
own preferences. Whatever you choose,
cloth wipes are worth the investment. They’re also great for sticky fingers,
snotty noses, and little spills, so they’ll be useful for years to come.

The Cutest Accessory in the Nursery- Our Planet Wise Wet Bag
A good friend recently stopped by to
meet the newest addition to our family. I showed her all the cute stuff I had
accumulated, but she kept gravitating back to our cloth diaper stash-
especially the Planet Wise wet bag hanging from the bassinet. All she could
keep saying (over and over) was, “It’s just so cute!”
When we were initially considering how to build our diaper
stash, we debated over whether or not we wanted to have a diaper pail or simply
use a large wet bag when at home. The decision was made when I saw all the cute
prints Planet Wise had for their wet bags. It may seem frivolous to care that
much about looks, but I have a philosophy that if you have to look at something
every day, make it something beautiful. Apparently the fabric purchasers at
Planet Wise agree with me!
We started using our owl print wet bag with our older child,
and I was immediately grateful for my decision to go with a wet bag, and for
more than just aesthetic reasons. After disposable diapering our oldest child
for over 2 years, I was so tired of our house smelling faintly of dirty
diapers. Our Planet Wise wet bag, however, holds in any and all smells all the
time. It was literally a breath of fresh air (sorry, bad joke)!
Once we got brave enough to venture out with cloth, we also
started using the small Planet Wise wet bag we received as a free gift from
Nicki’s Diaper for our $225+ order. While not my favorite color , it definitely
does the job when we’re out and about. The small size is perfect to hold 1-2
pocket diapers or 2-3 prefolds or stay dry inserts; it’s perfect for a morning
or afternoon running around town.
When we stick closer to home, the large size wet bag easily
holds 2-3 days of diapers. One of the best features of the bag is that we can
fill it with diapers, carry it down to the washer, dump the diapers out into
the washer, and then throw the wet bag in the wash with the diapers. I LOVE not
having to handle the dirty, gross, smelly diapers before they go in the washer.
In fact, I’m not sure I would be so quick to cloth diaper if we still had the
old wet-pail and bleach system. Yuck!
To sum it up: we love both of our Planet Wise wet bags. In
fact, the large owl print has significantly upped the cute factor of our
nursery. They’re well made, do the job, and the price is right. What more could
you ask for?

Flats on Friday!
As any mom knows, sometimes you have weeks where you feel like you just can't get ahead. This week was one of those weeks for me. Dinners were thrown together last minute, my laundry pile is growing exponentially, and when I went to move the clean diapers from the washer to the dryer this morning, I realize that the load from earlier this week was STILL in the dryer! Yikes, guess I'm low on diapers today!
Emmett woke up and needed to be changed out of his overnight diaper and as I looked for a pocket or AI2, I realized that my pickins' were SLIM! So, I reached to the back of my changing table, grabbed a flat and pad folded it into an Imagine Diaper Cover. As I lifted Emmett up and notice how trim this diaper is, I remember one of the many reasons why I love flats so much!
Ease- It doesn't get much more basic and much easier than folding up a flat and laying it into a diaper cover. Absorbent flat + waterproof cover = simple and bulletproof!
Fit- Since flats only come in one size, they truly are a one-size fits all diaper. While I prefer the ease of the pad fold, there are endless options for folding that will fit the tiniest newborn to large toddler! And with so many options, you can get an ultra trim fit!
Washing- Flats are a single layer of birdseye cotton, making them a piece of cake to wash. They come clean without a complicated system and are a great option for hand washing since they dry so quickly! I actually have a dozen flats and a handful of covers in our emergency kit for this reason.
Cost- How does diapering from birth to potty training for under $150 sound? Pretty great I'd say! Flats are hands down the most economical diapering option. Pick up 3 dozen flats and 10 one-size diaper covers and you're set!
Maybe next week I'll be more on top of things, maybe not. But even if I've got a full bin of modern cloth diapers clean and ready, I think I'm going to make this a new tradition and love on my Flats on Friday!

Maybe next week I'll be more on top of things, maybe not. But even if I've got a full bin of modern cloth diapers clean and ready, I think I'm going to make this a new tradition and love on my Flats on Friday!

My Imagine Prefold Conversion Story
I was such a snob when I started cloth diapering. Seriously. My husband wanted something that went on like a disposable, and I completely agreed because pockets and all-in-ones seemed like the “high tech” options. At the prompting of a friend, I bought a dozen Imagine cotton prefolds in small for overnight doubling and a few covers just in case, but I really doubted I would ever use them. They seemed so “old school”. Sure enough, we used Imagine pockets exclusively on our toddler and the prefolds stayed in the drawer, but then the unexpected happened.
Our first kiddo had always been chunky, even from birth, but our second baby started out long and lean and stayed that way. My beloved, bulletproof, never-fail Imagine pocket diapers leaked out the legs with my skinny-as-a-stick newborn. I knew that he would grow into the pockets eventually, but I needed something that fit NOW. That’s when I pulled out my Imagine prefolds and subsequently fell in love. Me, the doubting Thomas of the prefolds, had a total conversion. Here’s why:
1. I love how easy prefolds are to tri-fold, stick in a cover, and be on my way. None of the complex origami and dangerous diaper pins I’d been dreading.
2. The small size Imagine prefolds fit perfectly into all my diaper covers on the large setting, no fold-over involved. For this reason, I’ve used smalls on both my newborn and my 35 pound big-boy.
3. I LOVE diaper covers! Bumkins, Blueberry, Rumparooz, Thirsties- you name it. I’m a sucker for cute covers.
4. The Imagine prefolds just get better and better and softer and softer with every wash.
5. All cotton means easy washing, easy drying in the dryer, and no stink.
6. Only natural fabrics are touching my baby’s skin, although next time I will get unbleached instead of white, mostly because it hides baby-poop stains better.
7. Prefolds are way more portable than pockets or all-in-ones. I can fit 2 prefolds, a small wet bag, flannel wipes, and a small bottle of wipes solution in my purse- no diaper bag required.
8. I can, and do, use my prefolds for way more than diapering. Need a burp rag, lap pad, Kleenex, or towel? I’m always reaching for a prefold.
9. Imagine prefolds are durable! I’m pretty sure these could go through 12 kids, if I was crazy enough to have that many (which I am not).
10. There’s no, and I mean NO, more affordable way to build a stash than prefolds. They literally fit every budget, even our single-income, state-employee budget. Imagine prefolds are heaven-sent for my tight pocketbook.
If you’re thinking about starting or stash or expanding your stash with prefolds, today’s the day to do it. We love the Imagine brand prefolds, as well as the excellent customer service that comes with them from Nicki’s Diapers. Call me “old school” but we have become a prefold and cover family!
