Nicki's June AND July Mom of the Month!

***Since I'm a little behind this month, I'm going to let this mom shine in the spotlight for June and July!***
Name: Kendra S Hometown: Janesville WI Occupation: Stay at home Mom (former teacher) Children: twin girls: Abigail & Emma (2yrs 2 1/2 months) and one due in July How did you decide to cloth diaper? Honestly, I had thought about cloth diapering long before I became pregnant, but didn't discuss it much. After we found out we were having twins, it was a no brainer for us as I would be staying home and we would be on one income. My husband was fully on board; not afraid of it at all. He even does the laundry sometimes. :) What types of cloth diapers do you use? Actually, for the twins we used the cheap Gerber diapers and covers. We are not going that route again. I have also used a few Fuzzi Bunz my sister bought for me. This time we purchased some Thirsties covers with prefolds and Haute pocket diapers. I am looking forward to using these!! What is your favorite cloth diaper and why? At this point, not sure. I do like prefolds (higher quality ones of course). They just seem the easiest to care for and they dry faster. Fuzzi Bunz worked well for one daughter but the other one always reacted to the material and was a heavy wetter. The pocket diapers are nice for times we are out and about or when someone else needs to change their diaper. They don't have to touch the icky part! What is your favorite non-mommy related activity or hobby? I like to garden, exercise and camp- basically be outdoors! What type of music do you play in the car when you don't have your children? I listen to the same music with or without the children, Christian. What would you tell someone who is just starting out? Don't be afraid to go out and about when cloth diapering. Just go out prepared with extra clothes, diapers and a bag to put the soiled diapers in. Always pack more than you may think necessary. Don't be afraid of using prefolds and covers. Try several kinds within your budget/price range and talk to others that have CD. I made it through 2 years of cloth diapering twins with the cheapest CD you could find. I also have two much older step-children that we do a lot of running around for. I CD through it all. It is doable if you want it to be. Anything else we should know about you? Twins run in my family as I am a twin myself.

Rockin' Review: Rockin' Green Detergent!

If you are a cloth diaperer, or are considering switching to cloth diapers, one of your biggest questions or areas of interest are, "How do I get my diapers clean?". You've probably researched different wash routines and searched out different cloth diaper-friendly detergents. Well, look no further!
I was first introduced to Rockin' Green when I began working at Nicki's Diapers. I had already been cloth diapering for nearly 2 years and had tried a few different laundry detergents and dozens of different wash routines. Some of the failed miserably on the first try, others worked for a while but after a few weeks, we'd have stink/leaking/rash issues.
Since so many customers seemed to like Rockin' Green, I thought I would give it a try. I did a lot of research on the internet and found nothing but GREAT reviews on it! I wasn't sure what was at the root of my cloth diapering stink problems, but it seemed like whatever the problem was, Rockin' Green had an answer!
I read about the "Rockin' Soak" and decided to give it a try. I filled my washer up with hot water and 3 tablespoons of Rockin' Green. Then I dumped all my clean diapers in and let them soak. You could soak for as little as 30-60 minutes, or if you have bigger issues (or forget about the diapers soaking, like me :)) you can do an overnight Rockin' Soak! After you're done with the soak, empty your washer and run a couple washes without any detergent. Voila! Your diapers should come out smelling fresh and clean! I was so thrilled to open up my dryer and smell... NOTHING!! No funk, no overwhelming smell of detergent!
I've continued using Rockin' Green in my normal wash routine and I haven't had a single problem since! I'm officially a Rockin' Green "Groupie" and it's one of my favorites to suggest customers that come in with stink or build-up problems. Rockin' Green has recently re-vamped their site and their product! They've added a "Hard Rock" formula targeted for thos who have troubling hard water and they've also changed their scents to be 100% naturally scented!
Rockin' Green comes in 3 formulas and 6 scents, plus unscented! Chose from Soft Rock for those with sensitive little ones or soft water, Classic Rock for those with moderate hard water or those battling stinkies, and Hard Rock for those with very hard water. The scents have great names! Chose from Rage Against the Raspberries, Smashing Watermelons, Orangevana, Montley Clean, The Plain Green Teas, Lavender Mint Revival, and their unscented formula is Bare Naked Babies!
You can feel good using Rockin' Green. It's free of dyes, enzymes, whiteners and brightners. It's also 100% phosphate free, animal by-product free, never tested on animals and biodegradable!
Check back this week for your chance to win a bag of Rockin' Green Detergent in your choice of formula and scent!

June Babylegs of the Month WINNER!

Meet Andrew! This happy little boy was the winner of our Babylegs of the Month drawing that is held at our Nicki's Diapers Madison Retail Store. Andrew was a perfect model for all things at Nicki's Diapers, sporting a cloth diaper, Babylegs and onesie extenders thanks to his fluffy bottom! It was a pleasure meeting Andrew and his parents and I hope to see them again soon!

June 3rd-June 9th Weekly Giveaway

There is no cloth diapering accessory more essential than a good wet bag! Planet Wise went above and beyond when creating the Planet Wise line of Wet Bags, Wet/Dry Bags and Pail Liners. These are the first and only wet bags on the market that are not only sewn, but SEALED at the seams! You can put your wettest diaper, dripping wet swimwear, or wet wipes into a Planet Wise wet bag and be assured that your diaper bag or purse will not get wet from wicking or leaking! Planet Wise Wet Bags are available in 27 different fabric choices and each has a coordinating PVC waterproof inner layer and matching zipper. The Large, Wet/Dry and Hanging Wet/Dry bags have a matching handle.
There are endless uses for Planet Wise Wet Bags! The Planet Wise Mini Wet/Dry Bags can hold cut-up fresh veggies, make-up and mama cloth.
Use a Small Planet Wise Wet Bag in place of a disposable sandwich bag to carry your lunch, to carry your wet wipes, to transport a dirty bib and spoon home from eating dinner out, or to prevent your cold water bottle from getting condensation all over your clean clothes in your gym bag. Are you worried about your shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, etc. leaking all over your luggage but don't want to waste all those disposable plastic bags? Use a Small Planet Wise Wet Bag in your checked luggage to keep everything contained in case of accidental bottle explosions.
A Medium Planet Wise Wet Bag is the perfect size for dirty cloth diapers in your diaper bag. It will keep all odor contained in the wet bag so you won't get an embarrassing waft when you open up your diaper bag. They are also great to hold soiled clothing in your diaper bag. A Planet Wise Wet/Dry Bag is the same size as the Medium Planet Wise Wet Bag, but it has an extra pocket to hold dry, clean items. I love using my Planet Wise Wet/Dry bag in place of a diaper bag for quick trips out with my children. I put a couple clean diaper, my wipes pouch, my cell phone and wallet in the front dry pocket. Then after I change a dirty diaper, I simply put it in the wet pocket. The Wet/Dry bag has a loop handle that easily attaches to a stroller or shopping cart.
The Large Planet Wise Wet Bag is great to hold quite a few dirty cloth diapers on a day-trip. It also works wonderfully for wet towels. Nicki and her family used over a dozen Planet Wise Wet Bags to organize and pack their clothing and travel gear on their last family vacation! They are wonderful for bringing home your dirty clothes instead of using a disposable plastic laundry bag! The Planet Wise Hanging Wet/Dry Bag works as a great alternative to a diaper pail. I have one of these in my son's room hanging off the changing table and a second one hanging off our bathroom closet next to the diaper sprayer. They save on floor space and you can find a pattern to match the room it will be in. Planet Wise Hanging Wet/Dry bags are also large enough to hold a weekend's worth of dirty diapers so they work perfect for traveling on longer trips and are much easier to bring with than a diaper pail. Many people also like to use the Planet Wise Hanging Wet/Dry bag as their daycare cloth diaper bag. You can put all your child's clean cloth diapers in the front dry pocket and as the day care provider changes your child, they simply put the dirty diaper in the wet pocket. At the end of the day you only have one bag to bring home!
Line your cloth diaper pail with a Planet Wise Pail Liner (which also has the same seam sealed technology at the Planet Wise Wet Bags), to hold in all wetness and odor and keep your baby's room smelling fresh. They have no-pill elastic around the top so they easily fit most standard pails and trash cans. Planet Wise Pail Liners are available in a wide assortment of colors to be sure to match any taste. Planet Wise recently released a Wipes Pouch that is the perfect dimensions for your cloth wipes folded in half. They come with super-soft matching cloth wipes. Slip your pre-moistened wipes into the pouch and toss it into the front pocket of your Wet/Dry bag and you are ready for any diaper change on the go!
All Planet Wise Wet Bags and Pail Liners can be laundered right with your cloth diapers or regular clothing. To enter to win a Planet Wise Wet/Dry Bag in your choice of fabric, leave a comment on our blog with a link to each entry (examples: your blog post, your comment on our FB page, etc.). You may only do each entry option once per weekly giveaway. Winner will be posted 6/9. Winner must email annie@nickisdiapers.com within one week to claim your prize. 1. Become a subscriber of Nicki's Diapers Blog or if you already are, comment on any blog post (not including the weekly giveaway). 2. Become a Fan of Nicki's Diapers Facebook page or if you already are, post a comment on the page. 3. Post a comment on your Facebook page and include a link to the Nicki's Diapers Website 4.
