Renovations to the New Rules of Sunscreen make you THINK!

Though many of our parenting styles differ, I think we can all agree that our children's safety is our top priority. With summer in full swing, one of our biggest causes of concern for our children is their safety in the sun. On Tuesday, June 14th, The FDA released new rules and criteria to help us better understand what sunscreens are going to protect the best. The most important things to note:

  • Sunscreens must equally protect against both UVA and UVB rays in order to claim they offer "broad spectrum" protection. Both of these types of rays cause cancer.
  • Sunscreen manufacturers are no longer allowed to claim their product is "waterproof" or "sweatproof". They will now have to undergo testing to determine the length of time (in minutes) that their product is water resistant.
  • Only sunscreens that have an SPF of 15 or higher will be able to claim their product offers protection from sunburn.
The hope of these new rules is that you will be able to keep your child safe in the sun based on information found right on the bottle of your sunscreen. You can feel confident that the claims that are made on your sunscreen are accurate and you are able to choose the sun protection that is right for them.

These new rules go into effect in one year, but one company that we are proud to carry is already on top of all of the new regulations! thinkbaby has always been a leader when it comes to a call for change! They were one of the first companies to offer a full line of BPA free baby bottles, and now thinkbaby and thinksport are one of only a handful of companies that STARTED with a safe line of sunscreen! No need to adjust to comply with the new rules!

thinkbaby and thinksport sunscreens are are physical sunscreen rather than a chemical sunscreen, which means they begin working as soon as they are applied with a physical barrier on the skin rather than a chemical being absorbed. They also have the highest possible FDA rating for water resistance, maintaining their SPF 80 minutes after water immersion! You can also be confident that they are free of all biologically harmful chemicals, have broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, are paraben and PABA-free and are made in the USA!

We feel good about offering these products to our customers and you can feel confident that your child's safety is not being compromised when you choose thinkbaby!
