A Candy Free Easter Basket!

Our Candy Free Easter Basket- Think Spring!

I have wonderful childhood memories of the Easter bunny, searching for eggs and Easter baskets, and fighting with my brothers over the items they received that I really wanted for myself. (My parents might not have such great fond memories of that part.) Although we always received some chocolates and jelly beans, we also always had some great practical items in our baskets. Items that lasted much longer than the sugar binge we went on.

This is my first Easter with our toddler. Last year I was barely clinging to my sanity with a newborn, I don't remember Easter even occurring. Whether you celebrate Easter in the traditional sense or just want to bring in the spring with a happy celebration, I've come up with a candy free set of items I'm excited to include for our little chick.

1) Green Toys

Have you tried out the Green Toys before? Baby Z received the Green Toys Ferry Boat for a birthday gift and it has immediately become a bath tub favorite. I plan on moving it outside into her water table when things warm up a bit. Green Toys are made from 100% recycled plastic and are so sturdy. I'm excited to snag the construction trucks, dump truck, and tractor to add to her Easter basket so that she can move dirt around the yard soon.

2) Planet Wise Lunch/Snack Bags

Spring time means more time outdoors and more time enjoying picnics at the park. The Planet Wise Sandwich Wraps are going to make an Easter basket appearance this year because they are perfect for the park. Wrap your sandwich in the wrap to keep it fresh and sand free while you play, and then lay the wrap out flat to use it as a place mat while you eat.
The Reusable Zipper Bags are also perfect for small snacks for little hands. We have several bags in cute prints and let Baby Z pick out her bag and her snack for the day. Putting that small amount of choice in her hands has made a big difference and I'm excited to include a few more in her Easter basket this year.

3) Baby Leggings

These are loved by both mom and baby in our house! For mom, they make diaper changes so simple. You don't have to remove them to change the diaper and they keep her warm when there's a cool spring breeze outside. Baby Z loves to pick out a cute pair to match her diapers and prefers them to pants (let's be honest, who really wants to wear pants!). We've also found they are awesome to use under pants if  it's a chilly morning and you take a trip outside. When we wear Baby Z in a carrier her pants ride up, but the leggings underneath keep her lower legs and ankles warm.

4) Nicki's Doll Diapers

With Baby #2 on the way, we spend a lot of time talking about babies and baby care in our house. Baby Z has started dragging her baby doll around by the leg, so it seems like we're off to a good start. The new Nicki's Doll Diapers are the perfect way to continue the baby conversation and help her learn to care for a baby. They match her adorable Nicki's Diapers prints and she loves to look just like her baby.

5) My Swim Baby Swimwear

I'm so excited to get outside more as the weather warms up and Easter just makes me think of spring time and sunshine. Baby Z loves water and instead of just playing in the dog's water bowl, we plan on letting her enjoy her water table, sprinkler, and baby pool this summer. While a naked baby running around the backyard will probably happen on occasion, a My Swim Baby swim diaper is a more neighbor friendly option. Pair the swim diaper with a matching sun hat and rash guard top and Baby Z will be protected from the sun while she runs in the sprinkler. We used a reversible sun hat for every walk last summer as well, both to keep her face protected and keep the sun out of her eyes.

**Giveaway!!** Want to win your own My Swim Baby swimwear for your little one's Easter basket? Leave a comment on what non-candy item you're excited to include in your baby's Easter basket this year or just your favorite item that makes you think spring and you'll be entered to win a My Swim Baby swimwear set. Comment by 3/15/16 to be entered to win.

Product Review: Planet Wise Reusable Trash Bags

Planet Wise Reusable Trash Bag- To the Point

Have you ever asked for plastic at checkout at the grocery store, just so you have some extra plastic bags to use in small trash cans around the house? When we found ourselves doing just that, instead of using our reusable shopping bags, we took a step back and found a better option with the Planet Wise Reusable Trash Bags.

Just like many of you, one of the reasons we made the leap to cloth diapers when our first baby was born was because we wanted to make a smaller impact on the environment than thousands of disposable diapers would. We were already using Planet Wise products for so many great uses like storing our precious Tula and accessories in a wet-dry bag , keeping snacks handy in the diaper bag with the reusable snack bags, and keeping pumping parts handy and discrete in a wet bag while at work. Why not keep reducing our environmental impact and stop asking for those wasteful plastic bags?

We tried our first Planet Wise Reusable Trash Bag in the baby's nursery to keep the plastic bags out of her reach and found it so handy that now you'll find them in nearly every room of the house. On trash day, we walk around with one plastic bag, easily empty the contents of the Planet Wise Reusable Trash Bag into it, and have saved so much plastic waste! If the liner ever gets dirty from the contents, we pop it in the washer and it's clean and ready to go in no time.

Planet Wise Reusable Trash Bag- Avocado
The bag itself has a waterproof lining inside to keep anything damp from leaking and is even anti microbial so we feel safe using it everywhere from the bathroom to the kitchen. The elastic top of the 5 gallon bag drapes over the edge and keeps the bag solidly in place, even when small curious hands try to pull on it a bit. The cute colors and prints that we can match to every room in our house just add to the décor, just like this perfect avocado bag to match our jungle themed nursery. We now use our small pail liners in each bathroom and keep one in the office for recycling old papers as well.

The reusable trash bags have easily become one of our favorite Planet Wise products. What's your favorite Planet Wise product to use around the house?

The Cutest Accessory in the Nursery- Our Planet Wise Wet Bag

A good friend recently stopped by to meet the newest addition to our family. I showed her all the cute stuff I had accumulated, but she kept gravitating back to our cloth diaper stash- especially the Planet Wise wet bag hanging from the bassinet. All she could keep saying (over and over) was, “It’s just so cute!”

When we were initially considering how to build our diaper stash, we debated over whether or not we wanted to have a diaper pail or simply use a large wet bag when at home. The decision was made when I saw all the cute prints Planet Wise had for their wet bags. It may seem frivolous to care that much about looks, but I have a philosophy that if you have to look at something every day, make it something beautiful. Apparently the fabric purchasers at Planet Wise agree with me!

We started using our owl print wet bag with our older child, and I was immediately grateful for my decision to go with a wet bag, and for more than just aesthetic reasons. After disposable diapering our oldest child for over 2 years, I was so tired of our house smelling faintly of dirty diapers. Our Planet Wise wet bag, however, holds in any and all smells all the time. It was literally a breath of fresh air (sorry, bad joke)!

Once we got brave enough to venture out with cloth, we also started using the small Planet Wise wet bag we received as a free gift from Nicki’s Diaper for our $225+ order. While not my favorite color , it definitely does the job when we’re out and about. The small size is perfect to hold 1-2 pocket diapers or 2-3 prefolds or stay dry inserts; it’s perfect for a morning or afternoon running around town.

When we stick closer to home, the large size wet bag easily holds 2-3 days of diapers. One of the best features of the bag is that we can fill it with diapers, carry it down to the washer, dump the diapers out into the washer, and then throw the wet bag in the wash with the diapers. I LOVE not having to handle the dirty, gross, smelly diapers before they go in the washer. In fact, I’m not sure I would be so quick to cloth diaper if we still had the old wet-pail and bleach system. Yuck!

To sum it up: we love both of our Planet Wise wet bags. In fact, the large owl print has significantly upped the cute factor of our nursery. They’re well made, do the job, and the price is right. What more could you ask for?

Product Review: Small Planet Wise Wet Bag and Designer Changing Pad

My son was 5 months old when I first visited Nicki’s Diapers. When I walked in, I was immediately drawn to a table filled with vibrant colors and beautiful patterns. I had no idea what the Planet Wise Wet Bag was, but I couldn’t stop sifting through the multiple patterns of these great bags that I knew I had to take home. (Ask my husband, anything that is appealing to the eye I want immediately, even if I have no clue how I’ll use it.)

I decided on a small wet bag and matching changing pad, as I was tired of the bulky all-in-one changing systems I had previously been using. They weren’t flexible, they were heavy and they were huge! But as a new mom, I didn’t know any different from purchasing all of my baby needs at big box stores.

The Small Planet Wise Wet Bag turned out to be perfect for my son and me. He wasn’t going through as many diapers as he had been when he was younger, and I was ready to get rid of my huge diaper bag. The small wet bag fit just what I needed to take my little guy out and about — two to three diapers, the matching changing pad and a travel case of wipes — and it allowed me to start carrying a purse again.

My son is 15 months old now, and that wet bag has traveled all over the place. I’ve received multiple compliments along the way — from how cute and stylish the pattern is to how compact and easy it looks to use, people take notice, and I’m more than happy to say where I got it from and how great it has been in my life! When I’ve had to throw a wet diaper in the bag until I found a place to toss it, I’ve never had an issue with it leaking through to other items in my purse nor have I had to deal with a permeating funky smell.

It’s been so useful in our life that with our second baby due in the fall, I’ve already purchased another wet bag and changing pad. This way I can still keep the bulky diaper bag at bay and give the kids a little flair in their diapering identity. Not to mention the ease that will come for both my husband and I with grabbing one little bag filled with all the diapering needs when either one of us takes only one of the kids out and about.

About our Guest Blogger: Jenna is a freelance writer and editor who lives in Verona, WI, with her husband and 15-month-old son. They are expecting their second little one in late September. She looks forward to sharing her experience about transitioning to cloth diapers!

Planet Wise Nursing Cover Review and Giveway

Now that I'm nursing my 3rd baby, I'm pretty comfortable to nurse just about anywhere. I've nursed in shopping malls, at the park, while grocery shopping, and even on top of the Sear's Tower (can't remember what it's called now, but it was the Sear's Tower while I was there :)). Generally, I'm just fine nursing without a cover while still being decrete. There are a few places though, that I do prefer to use a nursing cover, like in church! I don't know everyone's opinions on breastfeeding and it just doesn't seem right to possibly offend the church elders :)

I'm so glad Planet Wise came out with a nursing cover, since after my 2nd baby I loaned mine to a friend! Their fabrics are super hip and high quality, the cover has full coverage around the sides, and it comes with a small zip-up pouch to carry it around it. I can even throw an extra set of nursing pads and a small burp cloth in the pouch so I'm ready to nurse anywhere! Also, the neckline is rigid so I'm able to see my nursing baby without exposing too much.

I had the hardest time selecting which print I wanted (because I really only NEED one!), but finally settled on the beautiful Organic Kaleidoscope. YOU can choose your own print if you are the winner of the giveaway below!
